Class 8GM 2021 - 2022
Miss Mackenzie
KS2 Manager
A huge welcome to Class 8 from Miss MacKenzie, Mrs O'Donnell and Mrs Partington.
Class 8 is one of our three Y5/6 classes. We all work closely together to make sure children in the phase complete the same work.
Y5/6 are very exciting years at Carr Mill primary School with lots of exciting learning opportunities and experiences for the children. We want our children to grow in confidence as well as in their knowledge and so we find ways to develop their independence.
We are very proud of our classroom: we work hard to create a bright and stimulating learning environment. We have working walls that display key learning objectives and vocabulary we need. Around the classroom, we also have tools that the children can use independently: dictionaries and thesauri; word and vocbulary mats; counting sticks; place value grids; and loads more maths equipment. We also love celebrating children's work and we are very proud of work that we do display.
We have a rich and varied curriculum. We learn so many new things across all areas of the curriculum. Our school curriculum plan will give you furthere information into what we teach across the two years.
Weekly Information
PE is taught for two hours per week and is currently on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Each week we have spellings to learn. We teach and learn these every day and then have a test on a Friday. We also do a weekly arithmetic test. These are designed to help children remember. Retrieving information often helps our brains to transfer facts to our long term memory.
Below is a typical weekly timetable. Subjects may change depending on what area of the curriculum we are focusing on.
Home Learning
Homework is set weekly on a Friday and is expected to be handed in by the following Wednesday. We also expect children to read at home at least four times a week and record this is their Reading Records. Children who do not complete homework or reading are given time in school to complete this. Please support us by encouraging your child complete any tasks given.
Lots of our class activities are shared on our Twitter feed and you can follow Miss MacKenzie for frequent updates about what's happening in our class. Galleries will also be regularly popped on the school website for you to see.
Thanks
