Thank you to all of the parents who came along to help supervise the children
The ladies let us pretend to be a pilot in the cockpit. We also dressed up and learned about all of the different jobs in the airport. Which one would you like to be? Why?
Then we went to see the biggest aeroplane called concord with it’s very long and pointy nose. It’s wings were a funny shape and the wheels were bigger than the nursery children!

Abigail’s baby birds.
Abigail found a blackbird’s nest in her garden. Her family have been watching the baby birds hatch and grow and have kindly shared photos and videos with us at nursery so that all the other children can enjoy it.
The images are below to share with your children. What do the baby birds look like? Are they changing? what is happening to them?
Happy bird watching!
Under the Sea
Nursery have been learning about the animals that live under the sea.
We enjoyed observing a real fish and learning about the different parts of a fish. Why does the fish have a tail? How does it use its fins? How does a fish breathe?
The children created a giant fish by cutting out shiny scales.
We found out about clown fish and we know that they live in sea anemones because they don’t sting them. They weave between the anemones and clean them. The children made their own anemone and clown fish model.
We know that the sea and ocean are large areas of water and that the edge of the sea is usually made of sand. We call it the beach. Look at our beach art. We created the waves using our fingers in the paint. Then we added sand to create the beach. We exercised our fingers by weaving a giant sea through a net for our role play area.
In maths the children discovered which was nursery’s favourite sea creature by making a pictograph.
We wanted to know why sea turtles sometimes come onto the beach and we found out that they lay their eggs in a nest buried under the sand. Ask us about the sea turtle life cycle.
Here are some photographs of all our work so far. Next week we will be looking at shells.

How can you hep the Gingerbread man?
How can you help the Gingerbread man?
Last week, the children in nursery were problem solving. We thought about how the gingerbread men were hiding from the fox. They couldn’t cross Carr Mill Dam because they would get soggy! They knew they couldn’t trust Mr Fox because he would eat them up. The morning children decided to make a boat for the Gingerbread man and the afternoon children thought they would make a trap to capture Mr Fox, so he couldn’t eat them.
Here are some pictures of our work.
Gingerbread Man Homework
We were very lucky last week when somebody found our Gingerbread men hiding under a tree at Carr Mill Dam. They couldn’t cross the dam and were hiding from Mr Fox. They were returned safe and sound and so we decorated them nicely and gobbled them up!

We saw so many sea creatures and learned lots of new information about them.
Did you know:
-
sea horse dads have the babies?
-
starfish can have up to 40 legs?
-
sharks never run out of teeth, they keep growing new ones?
-
octopuses have nine brains?
-
turtles date back to the time of the dinosaurs?
-
sharks never stop swimming and so can’t sleep like we do?
Take a look at the photos below, to see what an amazing time we had.
Look at our baby chicks!
The children were very excited this week when they got to prepare the brooder box and meet our chicks for the first time. We looked very carefully at the chick’s beaks and feet and we loved how fluffy their feathers were.
Egg-citing News!
Overnight we managed to capture some footage of the chicks hatching. The children are so excited to welcome the new members of the class!
I wonder what we should name them?
Fruit Salad
Today we read Oliver’s Fruit Salad. Afterwards we thought it would be really fun to make our own fruit salad. The children remembered that they should wash their hands before preparing food. Then used the knives carefully to cut the fruit into pieces. Once it had been cut, they chose which fruit they would like in their fruit salad.
It was such a beautiful, sunny day we decided to eat our delicious, healthy fruit salad outside.
Hatch Day is nearly here!
We were very excited this morning when we discovered that there were some little cracks appearing in the eggs. It won’t be long now, so we decided to prepare the brooder.
The children helped to make sure everything was nice and clean and dry. Then we prepared the soft warm bedding at the bottom of the brooder. The children new that the chicks would need water and food so we got those ready too.
We can’t wait to care for our new baby chicks!
Patterns
We have been using shapes to make repeating patterns. Can you see what our patterns are?
Aspirations week in Nursery.
During aspirations week the children in nursery found out about the different sorts of jobs that they could do when they grow up.
Take a look at our pictures to see all the fun we had pretending to be firefighters completing our ladder training, looking after others in the hospital, caring for pets in the vets and calling for the emergency services outside.
The children wrote and drew pictures of what job they want to do when they are grown up.
