Welcome back to the next instalment of Rowan class blog. What a week it’s been! We’ve packed so much into the last few days that it’s hard to believe we’re heading into the final stretch of the year already.
In English, we’ve been diving into the world of non-chronological reports. The children have been brilliant at spotting all the key features – from headings and subheadings to those important factual tones and technical vocabulary. We’re gearing up to start drafting our very own non-chronological reports next week… all about the British Empire. There have already been some fascinating discussions as we explore this topic, and it’s lovely to see how enthusiastic the children are to share what they’re learning.
In Reading, we’ve been studying extracts linked to the British Empire too, analysing historical sources and thinking critically about what they tell us. It’s been fantastic to see the children make connections between their reading and writing work – they’re really becoming thoughtful historians.
Maths has been a real hit this week as we’ve been working on converting units. The children have enjoyed the challenge of flipping between grams and kilograms, centimetres and metres – and there have been plenty of lightbulb moments!
We’ve also wrapped up our Science topic on light. The children have really enjoyed investigating how light travels and how shadows are formed – there were definitely some future physicists in action! In RE, we’ve started learning about Hinduism, which has sparked some brilliant questions and discussions already. It's always lovely to see how curious and respectful our class is when exploring different cultures and beliefs.
Now… the absolute highlight of the week: the Colour Run on Friday afternoon! It was AMAZING. The joy, the laughter, the colour – it was such a special event, and every single child had a blast. We’ve got plenty of pictures which we’ll be sharing soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
On top of all that excitement, the children also found out which class they’ll be in next year – such a big moment! It’s added a lovely buzz to the classroom and made these last few weeks together feel even more special.
And speaking of not wanting to miss out… next week we’re starting our DT project – always a firm favourite. It’s going to be hands-on, creative, and (hopefully!) not too messy. Definitely a week to look forward to.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend and we’ll see you next week for more fun and learning!
