Art

At Carr Mill, I believe that the teaching and learning of Art should nurture children’s creativity, confidence and curiosity, enabling them to explore, experiment and express themselves in a variety of exciting ways. Our curriculum follows the National Curriculum, with Art aught discretely but purposefully linked to wider learning—particularly our English texts—so that children experience meaningful, coherent and inspiring projects.

I have worked with staff across the school to ensure each unit is carefully sequenced and progressive across phases, allowing children to build on prior learning and develop key skills over time. In Art, this includes developing skills in painting, drawing, collage, textiles, printing and sculpture, giving pupils the chance to work with a wide range of media, tools and techniques as their confidence grows. These areas support pupils in becoming creative problem-solvers who can apply practical skills in meaningful, real-world contexts.

Where possible, I strengthen learning through links with our English topics. In Phase 4, pupils explore Space Art, using their English work on space stories to inspire imaginative pieces. In Phase 2, children create artwork and simple products linked to The Tiger Who Came to Tea, connecting story themes with hands-on creative tasks.

My name is Miss Taylor and I lead Art at Carr Mill Primary School. My role is to champion creativity across the school by supporting teachers, motivating pupils, developing resources, monitoring progress and ensuring consistently high standards.

I believe that high-quality Art education empowers children to express themselves, value imagination and develop practical skills that prepare them for an ever-changing world. By the time our children leave Carr Mill, I hope they will see themselves as creative thinkers, artists and designers who are confident, capable and excited to shape the world around them.

Please keep checking this page for updates and examples of the fantastic Art work produced by our talented children.
