Foreign Languages- French
At Carr Mill Primary we aim to teach children about a wide range of countries and cultures. In KS2 children have a weekly lessons in French to encourage children to speak in sentences and write in a different language.
My name is Mrs Dixon and I am the Subject Leader for Modern Foreign Languages. Speaking another language is a valuable skill to have; not only does it help when travelling, but it also offers a significant advantage for learning in general. Acquiring a second language develops strong communication skills and enhances important cognitive abilities such as mental flexibility, multitasking, and problem-solving.
I believe it is extremely important to engage children in language learning as early as possible. The best way to achieve this is through lessons that are fun, inspiring, and interactive. My aim is to support teachers in delivering French lessons in an exciting way that captures children’s curiosity and enthusiasm, leaving them eager to learn more. Pupils will learn to read and write basic sentences and will gain confidence in speaking and listening in a new language through a wide range of songs, games, and cultural activities linked to France.
My hope is that pupils at Carr Mill Primary School will develop a genuine enthusiasm and love for language learning, which will prepare them well for their language studies as they move on to secondary school.
