Our Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

Our bespoke curriculum has been tailored to meet the needs of our children and our community. Through our carefully planned and sequenced approach, we allow children to build up the knowledge, understanding and skills to reach the intended learning outcomes for each year group as outlined in the national curriculum. Learning at Carr Mill begins as soon as the children come into our nursery setting and we have carefully mapped the knowledge and skills across each subject in units to build on the first foundations in EYFS.

As we are a 45 intake school and have mixed classes, we have to teach using a 2 year cycle. We have spent lots of care and time ensuring that this is progressive and allows children, despite which order they do each cycle in, to allow them to build upon previous knowledge and skills. Children do not repeat units.  They complete 2 cycles in each phase: KS1/LKS2/UKS2 and then move onto the next phase and complete the units across the 2 cycles in that phase.  You can see this by looking at one of the Long term planners for one of the subjects.

Currently our curriclulum runs as follows:

2022/23   Cycle A

2023/24  Cycle B

All of our Long term planners (LTPS) for each of the subjects taught are on the subject pages.  If you would like more information about a specific subject then please click the subject page on the dropdown menu or files to explore on the right hand side of this page or on the quality of education tab at the top.

Below is information on our current cycle and how this is mapped out across the year.

Our assessment of these subjects focuses on the key knowledge taught in each unit and what the children can remember.  This will help them learn more and remember more through allowing them to build on previous knowledge when they go through school; allowing for deeper knowledge.

For further information you can also look at the national curriculum online for Year 1-6 at https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/national-curriculum and for nursery and reception at https://www.gov.uk/early-years-foundation-stage.

If you would like to contact us regarding our curriculum then please contact school and our Curriclum lead- Mrs V Kennedy or the relevant subject lead (see individual subject pages for details) will contact you.

Many Thanks

Mrs V Kennedy- Deputy Head -Quality of Education & Curriculum Lead
