ROWAN weekly blog week 2
Date: 13th Jun 2025 @ 8:24am
Hello,
The children have been working so hard this week and it’s been a joy to see them so engaged across all subjects. Here’s a little snapshot of what we’ve been up to…
In Writing, we’ve been diving into the jungle (in our imaginations, at least!) and creating some wonderful descriptive narratives from Fred’s point of view – inspired by our class book: The Explorer. The children have done a fantastic job using speech to bring their characters to life, and it’s been lovely to see them experimenting with vocabulary to really capture the sights, sounds and feelings of the rainforest.
Reading sessions have also been centred around The Explorer and we’ve been sharpening our skills in inference, retrieval, and comparison. There have been some fantastic discussions as we explore the characters’ motivations and actions – it's clear we’ve got some budding detectives in our midst!
In Maths, we’ve wrapped up our unit on position and direction. The children impressed me with their understanding of coordinates, turns and translations – it’s amazing how confidently they can now describe movement on a grid (and maybe even teach some of us grown-ups a thing or two!).
Computing this week has been all about website safety. We’ve been investigating how to tell if a site is trustworthy, using our CARS objectives to guide us (Credibility, Accuracy, Reasonableness, and Support). It’s such an important topic and Rowan class asked some brilliant questions – it's wonderful to see them thinking critically about the digital world around them.
And of course, PE has been as energetic and fun as ever! We had a fantastic session with Coach Olivia (always a favourite!) followed by a lively game of rounders. There was lots of running, teamwork and laughter – the perfect way to end a busy week.
Next week is our assessment week, but please don’t worry – it’s just a chance for us to see where everyone’s at and to celebrate all the progress the children have made this term. We’ll be taking it all in our stride, with plenty of encouragement along the way.
As always, thank you so much for your continued support – it really does make all the difference. If you ever have any questions or just want to chat about how things are going, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
