Birch Class - 30.01.26

Date: 3rd Feb 2026 @ 1:16pm

This week has been another busy and exciting one in Birch Class, with lots of great learning taking place.

The children have completed a DT unit of work on levers and sliders. They explored how these mechanisms work before designing, making and evaluating a slider and a lever to make a character move from the story Wild. They showed great creativity and problem-solving skills and produced some fantastic pieces of work.

In English, we have started an exciting new book called ‘The Dragon Machine’. The children have been really engaged with the story so far and have thought carefully about the character George and his feelings throughout the story. We have created a story map and discussed the key parts of the narrative.

In Maths, we have continued our unit on shape, exploring the properties of 3D shapes. The children have also been identifying lines of symmetry in different shapes.

In PATHS lessons, we have been learning about manners and have taken part in thoughtful discussions about recognising and showing respect for others, as well as how our actions and words can affect people around us.

VIP of the week was awarded for DT and was given to Freya. Well done!
