Birch Class Summer 1 Week 1 21.4.25

Date: 22nd Apr 2025 @ 8:04pm

We hope you have all had a wonderful Easter holiday! The children have been very busy already this week.

In maths we have been remining ourselves all about 2D and 3D shapes. We recapped the properties of 2D and 3D shapes in teams and had a go at creating some shape patterns. On Tuesday we practised making 2D shapes using geoboards. Lots of children challenged themselves to make shapes such as octagons and hexagons. After lots of practise on the geoboards, we then had a go at drawing some 2D shapes onto squared paper.

In music lessons, we have been listening to and appraising both disco music and African lullabies. We then performed some traditional songs such as 'If you're happy and you know it' and 'Rock-a-bye baby'.

In English, we have been retelling the story of 'Owl Babies' by Martin Waddell.

On Wednesday, we had our first Sport's Day practise. We will be practising each of the races over the next few weeks. The children were brilliant at the races but also at cheering for each other too!

Next week we will be started a new geography topic all about reading maps and using atlases to find out more about the world.
