Birch Class Summer 1 Week 2

Date: 1st May 2025 @ 8:28pm

This week we have continued to practise for Sport’s Day and practised a couple of new events. We trialled the hurdle race and the 100m sprint. The children were great sports! In English, we have been learning how to use 'a', 'an' or 'the'. We ended the week by rewriting the story ‘Owl Babies’. The children produced some fantastic pieces of work!

In maths we have been adding two, two-digit numbers together and subtracting two, two-digit numbers. We have worked practically, using tens and ones grids and dienes, to support us with our learning.

In Geography, we have been learning about how to read maps and how to give directions from one place to another. The children drew some fabulous maps of the area that surrounds our school, and we practised giving each other directions from school to a key area in Carr Mill/ Moss Bank (such as the library, the shops, the park etc).

In computing we used our new knowledge of directions to program Beebots, making them move around a map.

We ended our week with a whole school party on the playground this afternoon as we had achieved an attendence score higher than 96% as a whole school.

Next week we will begin our science topic. We are learning all about plants and what they need to grow. Over the upcoming weeks we will even get the chance to plant our own seeds!
