Sycamore - WEEK 2

Date: 16th Jan 2026 @ 8:48am

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Sycamore class! 🌟

In Writing, the children have been putting their creative hats on as we explored The Lost Happy Endings. We didn’t just read the story—we took it one step further and imagined our own endings! The best part? Many of our young writers decided the witch should get her comeuppance, so we’ve been crafting some truly dramatic and satisfying conclusions. The classroom is buzzing with ideas, and it’s lovely to see them so engaged in storytelling.

In Reading, we’ve been sharpening our inference and comprehension skills. The children have been diving deep into the text, thinking about why characters act the way they do and predicting what might happen next. It’s amazing to watch their confidence grow as they justify their thoughts with evidence from the story.

Maths has been extra special this week as we celebrated Maths Money Week! 💰 The children have been busy comparing amounts, recognising different coins and notes and working out change from various amounts. Their enthusiasm has been infectious and we’ve also had some fabulous entries for our maths competition—check out the photos below to see their fantastic work!

In Geography, our focus has been on jungles and deserts, learning about different biomes and climates. The children have been fascinated by how plants, animals, and people adapt to such varied environments. It’s sparked some really thoughtful questions and lively discussions.

We also had a special treat with a debate workshop led by Jack. He taught the children the value of a positive argument and how it’s okay for people to have different ideas. The children practiced expressing their opinions respectfully and listening to others—skills that will stay with them far beyond the classroom.

Finally, don’t forget that our class newsletter has been uploaded! It’s packed with all the highlights from the term, so do take a look if you haven’t already.

Thank you, as always, for your support at home.
