SYCAMORE - Week 3

Date: 21st Nov 2025 @ 7:58am

Hello everyone,

What a busy—and truly brilliant—week we’ve had in Year 4 and Year 5!

In Writing, the children have been hard at work building up our very own Instruction Manual: How to Survive an Air Raid. They’ve been confidently experimenting with time and manner adverbials, sharpening their use of strong imperative verbs and sprinkling in some wonderfully detailed expanded noun phrases.

In Reading, we’ve continued exploring The Lion and the Unicorn, linking the story beautifully to our discussions about WW2 evacuees. The children have been so thoughtful and empathetic, really stepping into the shoes of the characters and considering what life must have felt like for young evacuees during the war.

Over in Maths, we’ve spent time consolidating our understanding of square and cube numbers, along with plenty of arithmetic practice to keep those key skills sharp.

In Science, we’ve been diving into forces, carrying out investigations into gravity, air resistance, and more. It’s safe to say this topic has been a huge hit!

In French, we’ve been practising telling the time and revisiting numbers and the children have been growing in confidence with both. It’s lovely to hear how willing they are to speak out loud and have a go!

To top it all off, we had a whole-school party to celebrate our amazing attendance—what a treat! The children loved coming together for such a special event, and it’s lovely to see their commitment to being in school rewarded.

And as for next week… well, there’s lots to look forward to! We can’t wait to jump into more learning, more creativity, and more fun.

Wishing you all a restful weekend!
