Dear Parents and Carers,
What a brilliant week it’s been in Sycamore!
🚀 A Trip to Remember
Last Friday, we had the most fantastic time at Jodrell Bank. The children were incredibly well behaved and loved exploring space, science and those huge telescopes! We saw lots of wide-eyed wonder! Here are some pictures to give you a glimpse of the fun 📸✨
➕ Maths
In Maths this week, we’ve been diving into decimals and percentages. The children have been learning how to round numbers to 1 decimal place and are growing in confidence explaining their thinking—great problem-solving skills on show!
📖 Reading
Our reading lessons have focused on developing key comprehension skills. We’ve been exploring:
- Vocabulary
- Inference
- Explanation
- Prediction
- Summarising
All of this has been through our class text, Kensuke’s Kingdom, which the children are really enjoying. There have been some thoughtful discussions and brilliant insights into the characters and themes.
✍️ Writing
In Writing, the children have been getting creative by planning and writing their own jungle setting descriptions. We’ve been thinking carefully about atmosphere, descriptive language, and how to really bring the jungle to life for the reader.
🌍 Geography
We’ve now finished our Geography topic on jungles and deserts. The children have learned about climates, wildlife and how people live in these contrasting environments. A great end to the topic with lots of knowledge to be proud of.
💻 Computing
In Computing, our focus has been on e-safety, particularly communication and collaboration online. We’ve talked about how to stay safe, be respectful, and make sensible choices when working with others digitally.
🚨 Crucial Crew Visit
This week, Year 5 visited Crucial Crew, where they took part in a range of practical activities focused on staying safe in real-life situations. The children were engaged, sensible, and represented the school brilliantly—we’re very proud of them.
