Sycamore - WEEK 6 blog

Date: 12th Dec 2025 @ 3:45pm

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Sycamore! The children have been busy, creative and full of excitement as we move closer to the end of term.

In Design and Technology, we have been working on our sewing skills. The children have been practising a range of stitches, including cross stitches, running stitches and back stitches. They showed fantastic concentration and perseverance and many of them commented on how much they enjoyed the process of beginning to turn and plan a simple piece of fabric into something special.

In English, we have started our new reading and writing topic based on The Grinch. The children are already loving the story and we’ve had some brilliant discussions about the characters, setting and themes. We can’t wait to dive deeper into the book as we explore and create an instruction manual on how to steal Christmas!!!!

In Maths, our focus has been on position and direction, looking closely at coordinates. The children have been plotting points and reading grid references with growing confidence. It’s been wonderful to see them engage so enthusiastically with this practical area of maths.

This week also brought some special whole-school events. We celebrated being awarded School of the Year with an amazing whole-school party! The excitement and pride were clear on every child’s face. We also enjoyed our festive Christmas Welly Walk, which was a huge hit—lots of rosy cheeks, muddy boots and happy smiles!

It has been a busy but joyful week, and we are incredibly proud of how well the children are working and participating in all that’s going on in school.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
