Sycamore - WEEK 7
Date: 17th Oct 2025 @ 3:24pm
Hello everyone!
What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 4 and 5 – it’s been full of creativity, curiosity, and some truly brilliant discussions. The children have worked incredibly hard and we’re so proud of their enthusiasm and teamwork across all subjects. Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been up to…
✏️ Writing
This week, we’ve been busy planning and developing our sentence structures for our space explanation pages. The children have been thinking carefully about how to make their writing clear, factual, and engaging – just like real information texts you might find in a science magazine! We’ve explored ways to vary our sentences, use technical vocabulary and add those all-important conjunctions to make their explanations shine. I can’t wait to see the finished pieces next week – they’re shaping up beautifully!
📚 Reading
In reading, we’ve started looking at World War II extracts. The children have been brilliant at discussing how characters might have felt during this time, as well as identifying key vocabulary and exploring the author’s choices. We’ve also begun to look more closely at different reading aspects, such as inference and retrieval, to help deepen our understanding of the texts. It’s been lovely to see how engaged and thoughtful the class have been in their discussions.
🔢 Maths
We’ve just finished off our unit on time, and I have to say, the children have done a super job tackling those tricky conversions and time problems! Next, we’re moving on to fractions – starting with equivalent fractions and fractions of a whole. We’ll be using lots of visual models and practical activities to help everyone build a strong understanding before moving on to more complex work.
🎨 Art
Art has been an absolute hit this week! We’ve been exploring retrofuturism – combining futuristic ideas with a vintage twist. The children have loved experimenting with bold colour palettes. The results have been stunning (and a bit cosmic too!) – we definitely have some budding designers in our midst.
As always, thank you for your continued support at home – whether it’s helping with reading, practising times tables, or simply chatting about what we’ve been learning, it all makes such a difference.
Have a wonderful weekend,
