Chestnut Spring 2 Week 3, by Miss Sims

Chestnut Class have worked very hard this week as it has been test week in school.
In History this week we have been learning about The Titanic! The children have really finding out about some of the reasons for the sinking of the unsinkable ship.
We have continued our topic about Christianity in R.E. and looked at where we belong. The children learnt about some of the features of a church and the meaning of some of the symbols.
Next week, we will be completing some artwork based on our new English text, The Tempest.

What a very exciting week we have had in school this week!
The children looked fantastic in their costumes for World Book Day and enjoyed lots of lovely activities on the day.
In English we have continued to read the book Mr Bunny's Chocolate Factory which the children have loved! The children in Year 1 have completed a piece of writing in the first person this week; taking on the role of one of the chickens in the story to retell it. The children in Reception have written some super sentences about the story.
In Maths, Year 1 have continued to learn about Place Value within 50, whilst Reception have been learning about the composition of 6, 7 and 8 and finding doubles within 8.
In Science we have continued our topic 'My Incredible Body'. The chidlren completed an experiment to find out which activities increased out heart rate the most.
Next week, we will start our new History topic: The Titanic.
Chestnut Spring 1 Week 5, by Miss Sims

In Chestnut Class this week we have continued learning about Addition and Subtraction within 20.
In English we have written some wonderful adventure stories based on the book The Dragon Machine.
We have continued our unit of work in Computing lessons with a focus on using technology to create music using Chrome Music Lab.
We have also completed a unit of work in RE about the Islamic faith.
On Wednesday and Thursday this week we also shared our DT creations with Maple class. We enjoyed talking about our designs.
Next week, we will be starting our new Science topic: My Incredible Body. We will be tasting some different foods - a message has been sent to parents on School Spider about this.
Chestnut Spring 1 Week 4, by Miss Sims

Chestnut have had a great week.
We have been creating moving pictures in D.T. using levers and sliders. The children have explored how the mechanisms work and then designed a moving picture about 'Wild', a story we have looked at in class, using a slider and a lever to make the character move. We also completed some focussed practical tasks using the stories 'The Gingerbread Man' and 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.
In Maths, Year 1 have started a new topic, Addition and Subtraction within 20. Whilst Reception have been representing numbers to 5.
Our Year 1 English lessons have been focussed around the story 'The Dragon Machine', whilst Reception have been reading and writing about the story 'The Egg'.

It has been another busy week in Chestnut class.
In English, Year 1 have written some fantastic Jack and the Beanstalk stories in their Star Write books, whilst Reception have been reading and completing their writing about The Princess and the Pea.
In Maths, Year 1 have completed our Place Value to 20 topic, whilst Reception have been learning about the number 0.
We have completed our work in Geography about the UK this week and the children were brilliant at finding human and physical features of London.
Next week is a very exciting week as we will be creating moving images using levers and sliders in D.T.

Chestnut have had a brilliant week.
They all enjoyed a fantastic trip to Imagine That on Tuesday. The children loved making slime, decorating their own fridge magnets and taking part in exciting experiments.
This week has also been Maths Money Week in school. The children have learnt lots about money.
In our English lessons, the children in Year 1 have continued to read Jack and the Beanstalk, whilst the children in Reception have been reading The Princess and the Pea.
We have continued to learn about the UK and its capital cities during our Geography lessons.

Chestnut Class have had a busy start to 2026.
This week in Maths, we have been learning about the place value of numbers within 20.
In English we started a new text Jack and the Beanstalk which the children are really enjoying. We have explored the main characters and written a description of them using powerful adjectives.
We have started a new unit of work in our geography lessons this week - Let's Explore the UK. The children have really enjoyed exploring atlases and using them to find the continents, oceans and the countries of the UK. We will be continuing this topic next week too.
In computing this week we have been coding using the program Code Studio.
Next week in school is Maths Week - look out for this year's exciting competition on Seesaw. There will be prizes awarded for the winner of each key stage. This year's theme is money!
It is also our school trip next week. On Tuesday we will be visiting Imagine That in Liverpool and we are so excited about it!

Chestnut Week 8, by Miss Sims

We have enjoyed our final week of this half term in Chestnut Class.
The children have worked very hard this term and have all settled really well into the new academic year.
This week we have read the story Tabby McTat and produced some lovely pieces of writing based on the story.
The chidlren in Year 1 have continued to learn about Addition and Subtraction within 10, whilst the children in Reception have learnt about the numbers 1-5.
The staff in Chestnut hope that you all have a wonderful half term break, and look forward to seeing you all back on Tuesday 4th November.
Chestnut Week 7, by Miss Sims

We have had a lovely week in school.
This week we have been learning about Sonia Delaunay and studying her art work.
The children enjoyed learning about primary and secondary colours, mixing their own secondary colours and creating their own Sonia Delaunay inspired work.
This week we also read the story Monkey Puzzle in English and the children produced some lovely pieces of writing about the monkey and the animals that monkey met whilst searching for mum.
In Maths, the Year 1 children have been learning to add and subtract within 10, whilst Reception have been learning about the numbers 1 - 5.
There are lots of lovely things to look forward to next week during our final week of this half term.
