Chestnut Spring Week 1, by Miss Sims

Date: 9th Jan 2026 @ 3:52pm

Chestnut Class have had a busy start to 2026.

This week in Maths, we have been learning about the place value of numbers within 20.

In English we started a new text Jack and the Beanstalk which the children are really enjoying. We have explored the main characters and written a description of them using powerful adjectives.

We have started a new unit of work in our geography lessons this week - Let's Explore the UK. The children have really enjoyed exploring atlases and using them to find the continents, oceans and the countries of the UK. We will be continuing this topic next week too.

In computing this week we have been coding using the program Code Studio.

Next week in school is Maths Week - look out for this year's exciting competition on Seesaw. There will be prizes awarded for the winner of each key stage. This year's theme is money!

It is also our school trip next week. On Tuesday we will be visiting Imagine That in Liverpool and we are so excited about it!

If you have not already, please give consent for the trip on School Spider app.

We have enjoyed our final week of this half term in Chestnut Class.

The children have worked very hard this term and have all settled really well into the new academic year.

This week we have read the story Tabby McTat and produced some lovely pieces of writing based on the story.

The chidlren in Year 1 have continued to learn about Addition and Subtraction within 10, whilst the children in Reception have learnt about the numbers 1-5.

The staff in Chestnut hope that you all have a wonderful half term break, and look forward to seeing you all back on Tuesday 4th November.

The children enjoyed learning about primary and secondary colours, mixing their own secondary colours and creating their own Sonia Delaunay inspired work.

This week we also read the story Monkey Puzzle in English and the children produced some lovely pieces of writing about the monkey and the animals that monkey met whilst searching for mum.

In Maths, the Year 1 children have been learning to add and subtract within 10, whilst Reception have been learning about the numbers 1 - 5.

There are lots of lovely things to look forward to next week during our final week of this half term.
