Birch Class - 06.03.26

Date: 27th Mar 2026 @ 5:17pm

We have had a wonderful week of learning in Birch Class.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed an excellent live assembly from the school’s library service about the internet. We learned all about World Book Day and were introduced to some of the books we can get for free using our tokens.

In English, we have completed our unit of work on Mr Bunny’s Chocolate Factory, which the children absolutely loved, finishing with some fantastic star pieces of writing.

In Maths, we have continued looking at addition and subtraction. The children have been developing strategies to improve their efficiency when solving calculations.

Thursday was World Book Day, and the children looked absolutely fantastic in their costumes! They fully embraced the opportunity to become their favourite book characters, showing great enthusiasm and creativity throughout the day.

We spent the day sharing a range of wonderful storybooks, helping to inspire a love of reading and storytelling across the class. One of the highlights of the day was creating our very own class pop-up book based on The Gruffalo. The children worked incredibly hard to retell the story, adding their own imaginative twist by creating alternative ending.

In PE, we have continued our ‘Introduction to Games’ unit, where the children have been working in small groups to practise lots of different skills.

We were especially proud to win the class pop-up book competition for KS1! Well done Birch.

This week’s VIP winner for reading in Birch Class was Theo S, for his brilliant reading and his commitment to reading at home. Well, done!
