Sycamore Class - Week 5
Date: 13th May 2026 @ 11:28am
Hello everyone,
It’s been another busy and very positive week in Sycamore Class and I wanted to share a little snapshot of what we’ve been up to.
Firstly, I have to say how incredibly proud I am of the children for the way they’ve approached their mornings this week. With SATs taking place in school, they’ve shown real maturity by working quietly, sensibly and independently. It’s not always easy to adjust routines, but they’ve handled it brilliantly and I know they’ll be sending lots of good luck wishes to those taking the tests. We’re cheering them on all the way.
In English, we’ve now finished our work on King Kong. The children have done a fantastic job with both reading and writing linked to the text and this week they wrote up their own arguments debating whether King Kong is a hero or a villain. The discussions were lively, thoughtful and full of great reasoning—some very convincing arguments on both sides!
In Maths, we’ve come to the end of our shape topic. The children have worked hard on recognising, describing and reasoning about different shapes and we’ve also squeezed in some important arithmetic practice to keep those core skills ticking over. There’s been some great perseverance shown, especially with trickier problem-solving questions.
In French, we’ve finished our topic on physical description. The children have built up a really good bank of vocabulary and are becoming much more confident when describing people—super effort all round.
PE this week has been full of energy as we continue practising for Sports Day. We’ve also been enjoying some games of Jag Tag, which the children have absolutely loved—lots of teamwork, movement and excitement on the field.
In Computing, we’ve been recording our VLOGs linked to Human Geography. It’s been brilliant to see the children so engaged and creative and there have been plenty of giggles while filming! They’re really enjoying sharing their knowledge in such an imaginative way.
Looking ahead, next week is our final week before half term already (it’s come round quickly!). We’ll be finishing off a few final bits of learning and making sure everything is wrapped up nicely before a well-earned break.
As always, thank you for your continued support at home—it really does make a difference.
Have a lovely weekend!
