SYCAMORE - SPRING WEEK 3

Date: 12th Mar 2026 @ 8:32am

It’s been a busy week in our Year 4/5 classroom as we’ve reached test week. The children have approached the assessments with a fantastic attitude, showing resilience and trying their best. We’ve been really proud of the focus and determination they’ve shown – well done, Sycamore!

Alongside the tests, we’ve continued our exciting Maya history topic. The class has been learning about the Mayan number system, which the children found fascinating, especially seeing how it differs from the system we use today. We’ve also had a go at writing some of the Mayan alphabet, which led to some great discussions and some very creative attempts at writing like a Mayan.

One of the highlights of the week was trying out Pok-a-Tok, a traditional Mayan ball game. The children absolutely loved this activity and really got into the spirit of the game. It was a great way to bring our history learning to life!

In Computing, the class has been using Code Studio, focusing on coding and debugging. The children have been learning how to spot errors in their programs and fix them – an important skill for any budding coder. It’s been great to see them working through problems and helping each other find solutions.

For PE, we’ve been continuing with badminton. Despite the rather windy conditions outside, the children have shown great perseverance and have been doing really well developing their racket skills, control and teamwork.

A quick reminder for our Year 5 families that Bikeability will be taking place next week. Spider messages and letters have been sent out with the details. Please note that this is an opt-out activity, so if you do not want your child to take part, please contact the school office as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued support. It’s been another lovely week in Sycamore and we’re looking forward to more learning and fun next week.

Have a wonderful weekend! :)
