SYCAMORE - SUMMER 2 WEEK 1
Date: 5th Jun 2026 @ 4:09pm
This Week in Sycamore Class
What a fantastic week we've had!
In Maths, we have wrapped up our topic on Statistics. The children worked hard interpreting data, reading graphs and charts and drawing conclusions from the information presented. We have now begun our new topic of Negative Numbers, exploring where we might see them in everyday life and learning how to compare and order them. The children have enjoyed the challenge of working with numbers below zero and are already showing great enthusiasm.
In Writing, we have been developing our journalistic skills by creating a newspaper report about the disappearance of Cherry, the main character from The Giant's Necklace. The children have thought carefully about the features of newspaper writing, including catchy headlines, factual reporting and witness quotes. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and attention to detail as they bring this dramatic event to life.
Our Reading lessons have continued to focus on The Giant's Necklace. The children have been enjoying the story and engaging in thoughtful discussions about the characters, setting and events. We have worked on retrieval, inference and prediction skills, encouraging the children to support their ideas with evidence from the text.
In Art, we have been learning about the work of Georgia O'Keeffe and exploring the world of abstract art. The children have studied some of her famous paintings and discussed how artists can use colour, shape, and perspective to create different effects. Next week, they will be creating their own abstract designs inspired by O'Keeffe's unique style.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
