SYCAMORE - WEEK 2

Date: 5th Mar 2026 @ 2:25pm

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been another busy and exciting week in class, with lots of great learning happening across the curriculum!

Reading and Writing
We have continued to enjoy reading Holes by Louis Sachar together. Sycamore are really getting into the story and are asking thoughtful questions about the characters and what might happen next. This week in our writing, the children have been using the book as inspiration, thinking carefully about character thoughts and motivations. We’ve been practising how to use descriptive language to bring scenes to life. It has been lovely to see the children becoming more confident in sharing their ideas about the story.

Maths
In maths, we have been focusing on decimals, particularly understanding complements to 1. The children have been exploring how numbers combine to make 1 when written as decimals (for example, 0.7 + 0.3 = 1). We have used number lines, practical examples and reasoning questions to help build a deeper understanding.

History
This week we also started an exciting new history topic on the Mayan civilisation. The children have already been curious about who the Maya were, where they lived, and how their society worked. We will be learning about their achievements, daily life, and the lasting impact they had on the world. It’s always wonderful to see the enthusiasm when starting a brand-new topic!

World Book Day
Finally, today we celebrated World Book Day, which was a lovely opportunity to share our love of reading. The children enjoyed talking about their favourite books, authors and characters and it was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm for stories and reading and of course some great costumes!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend!
