This week in Beech Class we have continued with our topic of addition and subtraction in maths. We have used 10 frames to investigate number bonds to 20 and also how they relate to 100!

In English the children wrote a wonderful piece of writing about Rapunzel after reading the book. We also finished our lessons looking at the place value of punctuation and grammar and have enjoyed our handwriting sessions too.

Science lessons have been lots of fun and we have carried out some investigations:

To find the best material to make an umbrella (we will need this with the current weather!!)

To find the best material to make some curtains.

The children used fantastic scientific language and VIP this week was awarded for science too. This was given to Jayce this week. Well done!

This week in Beech class we have started a new topic in maths - addition and subtraction. We have used 10 frames to investigate number bonds to 10 and 20 and look at patterns with the numbers.

In English we read the book Star in the Jar and wrote some sentences about it alongside our work on the place value of punctuaion and grammar.

We also started our new unit of work in science - materials. We looked at different types of materials we use and their properties.

On Thursday we enjoyed our parents and carers visiting our class and created some wonderful artwork. It was so special to have everyone in our classroom.

VIP this week was awarded to Ava-Grace for their excellent work in RE lessons.

We also had Noah who went to Tea @ 2 with Mr Maley for always showing our school values or ready, respect and safe.

Well done to our winners this week!

Beech Class 19.09.25, by Miss Hampton

Date: 17th Sep 2025 @ 11:53am

This week the children have really tried hard with all of their learning.

In maths we have finished our unit of work about the place value of each digit in 2-digit numbers. We have had lots of fun using the concrete materials, making numbers and partitioning them using a part / whole model.

In English we have been involved in lots of games to remember what verbs are in a sentence and we also learnt how to spot 'the subject' of a sentence too.

We completed our topic of work in Geography all about hot and cold places. We looked in more detail about what the Artctic and Antarctica are both like and what kind of things we would find in those places.

In our PATHS lessons we explored the feelings of 'fine', 'excited' and 'tired' and we have completed our complements for our Child of the Day.

We have continued to enjoy our OPAL play and we are all remembering to bring our coats into school in case of any rain!

This week we had a class vote for who we wanted a our class student representative and the person with the most votes was Edison. Well done Edison!

VIP was awarded for geography this week and this was given to Frankie who can name all the continents and sang the continents song so enthusiastically.

Well done on another great week Beech Class!

Date: 14th Sep 2025 @ 4:19pm

Well what a great start to the school year we have had in Beech Class! We have all been showing out school values of ready, respect and safe and trying really hard with our learning.

In English we have been exploring different types of nouns - common or proper. We have also looked at what a verb is and really enjoyed playing a verb hunt in the classroom!

Maths has been lots of fun especially when we have used our equipment such as base 10 and rekenreks to show a number with concrete materials. We have developed our knowledge of the place value of 2 digit numbers.

We have started our new geography topic - Hot and Cold Place Around the World. We have talked about the equator and placed countries onto a world map thinking about why they would be hot or cold. We have also learnt the continent song and the oceans song too!

Our special event this week was when ITV news came into our class to film our PATHS lesson. We showed them how to 'do the turtle' to help us to calm down - Twiggle also helped with this!

VIP for our first 2 weeks back has been awarded for being ready, respectful and safe. Thomas won this last week and this week it was awarded to Mabel. Well done!
