We have had another great week in Beech Class.

In English we have completed some wonderful writing, retelling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have tried very hard with their handwriting in their Star Write books and they are looking beautiful!

We have started a new unit of work in maths - shape. We have looked at 2D and 3D shapes and how to identify the properties of each one.

We have completed our work in geography about the UK this week and the children were brilliant at finding human and physical features of London.

In computing we have started work using technology to produce music. We have explored Chrome Music Lab to create our own short pieces.

VIP was awarded for geography and this was given to Teona. Well done!

We have had another wonderful week in Beech Class! 

We started Maths Week with some interesting challenges finding all the different ways to pay for something at the shop. 

On Tuesday we went on our school trip to Imagine That and the day went so quickly because it was so exciting. We explored the science and water areas, completed tricky science experiments, acted out our experiences in the role play area, painted an actual car and most importantly we had lots of fun!!!

In English we have continued with our Jack and the Beanstalk book and written lots of sentences thinking carefully about where the subject and verb are and where we need a capital letter and full stop.

We have continued our geography topic 'Let's Explore the UK' and looked at the differences between the town and the countryside.

In computing we continued with our coding lessons and created lots of tricky code to move the character on screen. We also learnt about staying safe online and talked about who our trusted adults are that we would go to if we needed help online with staying safe.

In our PATHS lessons we have talked about how to make new friends and we have explored the feeling of 'shy'. We enjoyed doing some role play in these lessons.

Our VIP this week was awarded for Maths and it was given to Amelia. Well done!

Happy New Year to everyone!

Beech Class have made a wonderful start to 2026. It was lovely to see their smiling faces on Monday after the Christmas break.

This week we have continued our topic of multiplication and division in class using concrete resources to help our understanding.

In English we started a new text - Jack and the Beanstalk which the children are really enjoying. We have explored the main characters and written a description of them using powerful adjectives.

We have started a new unit of work in our geography lessons this week - Let's Explore the UK. The children have really enjoyed exploring atlases and using them to find the continents, oceans and the countries of the UK. We will be continuing this topic next week too. 

In computing this week we have been coding using the program Code Studio. The children loved building their code, creating their own algorithms and de bugging their code if it wasn't quite right!

Next week in school is Maths Week - look out for this year's exciting competition on Seesaw. There will be prizes awarded for the winner of each key stage. This year's theme is money!

It is also our school trip next week. On Tuesday we will be visiting Imagine That in Liverpool and we are so excited about it! 

This week's VIP winner in Beech Class was Ava-Grace who is respectful and kind to everyone around her...well done!

This week in Beech Class we have had lots of fun with our anti-bullying activities. We wrote a way to be kind and created a whole class friendship chain! We have also been completing a class kindness chart and there have been so many kind acts spotted this week!

On Friday we enjoyed coming into school in our own clothes to support Children in Need day and completed activitie in class.

In maths this week we have been learning about money - recognising coins and notes and counting pounds and pence.

In English we finished our topic based around the book Major Glad and Major Dizzy and wrote some wonderful diary entries.

VIP this week was awarded for kindness and friendship. This was won by Blake. Well done!

Beech Class have made a great start to the second half term of the school year and it was lovely to see all their smiling faces on Tuesday!

We have started a new unit of work in English this week based around the book 'Major Glad, Major Dizzy'. The children enjoyed listening to the story from the past and exploring why the toys were under the floorboards. 

In maths we started a unit of work about 'time', sequencing events throughout the day and understanding how long times are - seconds, minutes, hours and telling the time to o'clock.

We continued our science unit of work about materials and which material would be best to build The 3 Little Pigs house and why.

VIP this week was Writing Champions - for personal best handwriting.

Well done to Violet and Isaac who have shown dedciation to this area of their work.

We have a fantastic final week of the half term in Beech Class....

In English we completed some wonderful writing about our story 'Traction Man'. The children were very proud of their work!

In maths we continued with addition and subtraction and used our rekenreks well in our Mastering Number sessions. 

For computing, we used an app called Chatterkids - we made Traction Man speak!! It was so much fun!

On Thursday after school we were very scared.... at the Spooky Disco! Those who attended had a fabulous time!

Our VIP this week was awarded to Sadie for her great skills in computing. Well done Sadie!

This week in Beech Class we have had lots of fun measuring things in maths. We have used non-standard and standard units. We went outside with a metre ruler to measure things that were longer and shorter than 1 metre.

In English we have been thinking of nouns about Traction Man and modifying the nouns with adjectives and further details.

We have been enjoying our art topic this week looking at artwork in the style of Sonia Delauney. We have explored the colour wheel - mixing primary colours to make secondary ones. On Wednesday we looked at contrasting colours in detail and we created our final pieces which are beautiful.

Our VIP this week was awarded for art and it went to Ellis. Well done!

We have had so much fun in Beech Class this week. We have been enjoying our unit of work in Music, singing, dancing and playing instruments to the beat.

In English we have started a new story called 'Traction Man'. We made a story map and retold the story using actions. We have also written some beautiful pieces about the story using single clause sentences.

In maths we have moved on to a measurement unit. We have been thinking about standard and non-standard units of measure when recording length. We know how important it is to line the ruler up correctly when measuring length.

In PATHS we have introduced our control signals poster using 3 steps to calming down and thinking about what makes us angry and techniques we can use to calm down.

Next week we will start our Art project in the style on Sonia Delauney. We will be focusing on creating pictures using contrasting colours.

This week VIP was awarded for music....Zosia was our VIP in Beech Class. Well done!

This week in Beech Class we have continued with our topic of addition and subtraction in maths. We have used 10 frames to investigate number bonds to 20 and also how they relate to 100!

In English the children wrote a wonderful piece of writing about Rapunzel after reading the book. We also finished our lessons looking at the place value of punctuation and grammar and have enjoyed our handwriting sessions too.

Science lessons have been lots of fun and we have carried out some investigations: 

To find the best material to make an umbrella (we will need this with the current weather!!)

To find the best material to make some curtains.

The children used fantastic scientific language and VIP this week was awarded for science too. This was given to Jayce this week. Well done!

This week in Beech class we have started a new topic in maths - addition and subtraction. We have used 10 frames to investigate number bonds to 10 and 20 and look at patterns with the numbers. 

In English we read the book Star in the Jar and wrote some sentences about it alongside our work on the place value of punctuaion and grammar. 

We also started our new unit of work in science - materials. We looked at different types of materials we use and their properties. 

On Thursday we enjoyed our parents and carers visiting our class and created some wonderful artwork. It was so special to have everyone in our classroom. 

VIP this week was awarded to Ava-Grace for their excellent work in RE lessons.

We also had Noah who went to Tea @ 2 with Mr Maley for always showing our school values or ready, respect and safe.

This week the children have really tried hard with all of their learning.

In maths we have finished our unit of work about the place value of each digit in 2-digit numbers. We have had lots of fun using the concrete materials, making numbers and partitioning them using a part / whole model.

In English we have been involved in lots of games to remember what verbs are in a sentence and we also learnt how to spot 'the subject' of a sentence too. 

We completed our topic of work in Geography all about hot and cold places. We looked in more detail about what the Artctic and Antarctica are both like and what kind of things we would find in those places.

In our PATHS lessons we explored the feelings of 'fine', 'excited' and 'tired' and we have completed our complements for our Child of the Day.

We have continued to enjoy our OPAL play and we are all remembering to bring our coats into school in case of any rain!

This week we had a class vote for who we wanted a our class student representative and the person with the most votes was Edison. Well done Edison! 

VIP was awarded for geography this week and this was given to Frankie who can name all the continents and sang the continents song so enthusiastically.

Well what a great start to the school year we have had in Beech Class! We have all been showing out school values of ready, respect and safe and trying really hard with our learning.

In English we have been exploring different types of nouns - common or proper. We have also looked at what a verb is and really enjoyed playing a verb hunt in the classroom!

Maths has been lots of fun especially when we have used our equipment such as base 10 and rekenreks to show a number with concrete materials. We have developed our knowledge of the place value of 2 digit numbers.

We have started our new geography topic - Hot and Cold Place Around the World. We have talked about the equator and placed countries onto a world map thinking about why they would be hot or cold. We have also learnt the continent song and the oceans song too! 

Our special event this week was when ITV news came into our class to film our PATHS lesson. We showed them how to 'do the turtle' to help us to calm down - Twiggle also helped with this!

VIP for our first 2 weeks back has been awarded for being ready, respectful and safe. Thomas won this last week and this week it was awarded to Mabel. Well done!
