Seedlings Week 8 24.10.25, by Mrs Dixon

Date: 22nd Oct 2025 @ 9:30pm

This week in nursery has been full of spooky fun as we celebrated Halloween! The children loved making their own magical potions, mixing colourful ingredients and imagining all sorts of spooky spells. They also drew pictures of what they would put into their potions — from sparkly stars to slimy frogs! We enjoyed listening to Room on the Broom as our main story and talking about all the different characters. The children painted bright orange pumpkins and explored size ordering in maths, sorting pumpkins and spiders from biggest to smallest. To finish off our Halloween celebrations, we made some special Halloween snacks — a perfect treat after such a busy and exciting week!

Date: 16th Oct 2025 @ 12:59pm

This week, we've been busy with a range of fun and engaging activities.

Earlier in the week, we played Sound Bingo to help us identify common environmental sounds. Everyone listened really carefully and thoroughly enjoyed the game.

We also read the story Leaf Man, which inspired us to create our own Leaf Men using conkers and a variety of autumn leaves. The children showed great creativity and focus in their designs.

On Tuesday, we explored subitising through a range of games. The children were able to quickly recognise quantities and enjoyed matching the correct cards together.

It’s been a productive week of learning and we've had lots of fun!

We’ve had such a busy and exciting week in nursery! The children have been exploring the changing season by looking for signs of autumn and collecting lots of colourful leaves, noticing how the trees are changing. We loved reading non-fiction books about hedgehogs and learning lots of interesting facts. Afterwards, we made our own clay hedgehogs and even baked some delicious hedgehog bread! We also enjoyed sharing the story “We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt”, and the children loved joining in with the words and actions as we went on our own imaginary adventure. In maths, we have continued to look at repeating patterns using natural materials such as leaves, conkers, and sticks. The children enjoyed singing along to '5 golden leaves'. It’s been a wonderful week full of curiosity, creativity, and fun!

Date: 2nd Oct 2025 @ 12:47pm

This week in Nursery has been lots of fun as we explored repeating patterns and enjoyed the story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. The children had lots of opportunities to create their own repeating patterns using colourful blocks, beads, and even natural materials, carefully predicting what comes next. Our story of the week inspired plenty of excitement, as the children joined in with the words and actions of the bear hunt, retelling the adventure with great enthusiasm. We even went on our own outdoor “hunts,” pretending to swish through the grass, splash through the water, and squelch through the mud, which sparked imaginative play and teamwork among friends. Highlights included building long repeating patterns together, acting out parts of the story, developing listening and memory skills, and enjoying lots of muddy fun outside. It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged and curious, and we look forward to building on these skills with new challenges and adventures next week.

This week we have been reading a story called Martha maps it out. The children have been designing their own maps and telling us what they see on their way to school. In maths we have been sorting into groups by heght, hair colour, boy or girl and today we finished sorting pine cones and conkers.

Our rhyme of the week has been three blind mice. the children enjoyed holding the mice teddies and taking it in turns to 'chop off their tails!' Next week we will look at the rhyme 1 potato, 2 potato and out story will be 'We are going on a bear hunt'.
