Birch Autumn 1 Week 4, by Mrs Wilson-Briars
Date: 26th Sep 2025 @ 7:33am
This week has been another busy, fun filled week for Birch.
In English we have carried on our Grammasaurus work, thinking about how to punctuate sentences. We then completed a piece of writing about 'The Star in the Jar'. We came up with some lovely descriptions!
In Maths we have continued our work on addition and subtraction, looking at number bonds to 10 and 20. Learning these facts will really help with our maths throughout the year.
We have now completed our RE project all about Hinduism. This week we found out about the different Gods and what they represent as well as looking at the Hindu place of worship.
We ended the week with a McMillian coffee morning. We enjoyed cakes on the playground and breaktime. Thank you for any donations, we really do appreciate it!
Next week we will be continuing our work on materials in science and will look at the story of Rapunzel in English.
Don't forget that next week is your chance to come and visit our classroom. We will be completing an art activity, and you will have the time to ask any questions about the upcoming year you may have. Our parent workshop will take place on Wednesday 1st September at 2.30pm.
Birch Autumn 1 Week 2, by Mrs Wilson-Briars
Date: 19th Sep 2025 @ 1:49pm
This week we have had another fun week in Birch class.
We have continued our work on place value, looking at how to partition numbers and find one more and one less.
In English we have secured our understanding on nouns and verbs and have started to look at identifying 'the subject' of a sentence. We have enjoyed lots of games and partner work to help us with this learning. On Friday we also wrote some sentences about Tiddler and Mrs Wilson-Briars was so impressed with our work!
In Geography we have completed our work on hot and cold countries. Ava was awarded VIP for her fantastic contributions to class discussions in geography lessons. Wel done Ava!
We are pleased to let you know that our school council representative has also been chosen by the class... This year Hope will represent Birch class. Well done, Hope!
Next week we will start our science topic all about materials and continue with our RE topic on Hinduism.
Birch Autumn 1, Week 1, by Mrs Wilson-Briars
Date: 12th Sep 2025 @ 2:02pm
We have had a lovely start to our year 1 and 2 journey in Birch! We have tried hard to show our school rules 'Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe'.
In English we have been exploring different types of nouns - common or proper. We have also looked at what a verb is and really enjoyed playing a verb hunt in the classroom!
Maths has been lots of fun especially when we have used our equipment such as base 10 and rekenreks to show a number with concrete materials. We have developed our knowledge of the place value of 2 digit numbers.
We have started our new geography topic - Hot and Cold Place Around the World. We have talked about the equator and placed countries onto a world map thinking about why they would be hot or cold. We have also learnt the continent song and the oceans song too! We will be planning our assembly around this topic over the next few weeks.
We had a very exciting day on Wednesday when we appeared on ITV news!
Next week we are going to be listening to our senior students and house captains audition for their roles in the hall. We will also start an RE topic based around the religion of Hinduism.
