Birch Autumn 2: Week 2, by Mrs Wilson-Briars

Date: 14th Nov 2025 @ 2:00pm

This week has been Anti-bullying week in school. It has been such a lovely week!

We started off our week by thinking about kindness and how we can spread kindness around our school community and at home. We have created a kindness paper chain and a kindness calendar in class, showing the acts of kindness that we have completed this week. On Monday we enjoyed wearing our odd socks and taking part in an 'odd sock dance' (see the whole school video on Facebook). On Thursday we watched a live assembly from 'The School of Kindness' and the created kindness notes for family or friends. Our week ended with a 'Pudsey celebration' for Children in Need (Thank you for all your kind donations).

In maths we have been looking at money and can now state the value of all coins and notes. We have started to look at how to add these together too!

In English we have finished our work on 'Major Glad, Major Dizzy'. Mrs Wilson-Briars and Mrs Barton were very impressed with our diary entries in our Star Write books and several children went to put their name into the book of brilliance!

We had lots of fun in science this week! We carried out and experiment to test which material would make a good protective jacket for Humpty Dumpty. We wrapped an egg int different materials and pushed them from the top of the door.

Next week we will begin our history topic, My Memory Box. This will look at changes in living memory. On Tuesday we will be sharing our baby photos with the rest of the class to look at how we have changed (please send one across on Seesaw if possible).

Birch. Autumn 2: Week 1, by Mrs Wilson-Briars

Date: 6th Nov 2025 @ 3:50pm

Welcome back to our Autumn 2 term. We hope that you all had a lovely half term break.

This week we have started a new story in English called 'Major Glad, Major Dizzy'. This story starts of in the 1800's with a little girl who posts 2 toy soldiers under the floorboards. The book then travels through time, showing the journey of the soldiers and changes in the house overtime. It is very interesting!

In maths we have started to look at the time. We are learning the order of the days of the week and months of the year. We completed a fun experiment in Thursday's lesson, thinking about duration of time. We had to estimate how many times we could carry out certain tasks in 1 minutes (writing our name, putting our coat on, etc.) and then we tried it out to see if we were correct. Next week we will be looking at telling the time, thinking about o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.

We have continued our learning about materials in science this half term. Our first investigation was all about materials that we could use to build a safe house for ‘The Three Little Pigs. Next week we will focus on sorting materials based on their properties and creating a good outfit for ‘Humpty Dumpty’ to protect him from his fall!

In Computing we have looked at a programming app called 'Box Island' and next week will be revisiting our understanding of E-Safety.

Don’t forget that parents evening is next week, we look forward to seeing you all there :)
